Everyday Real-Hair Wig Care

woman combing hairPurchasing a wig is a big decision. A key step to maintaining a real-hair wig’s natural look is to properly care for it. Follow our wig care tips below, inspired by eBay’s “5 Must-Have Wig Care Products,” for long lasting results.

Washing

An important step to maintaining your wig is to properly shampoo and condition it on a regular basis. We recommend washing your hair every 12 to 15 washes to keep it looking clean and smelling fresh. Before shampooing your wig, detangle the hair with a wide tooth comb. Begin at the ends and work your way slowly up to the cap.

Wash your hair under cold tap water, making sure to position it so the water runs in the same direction as the hair. This will help you to avoid tangles. Apply a phosphate-free shampoo with your finger, then rinse thoroughly.

Once all shampoo has been rinsed out, pat your wig dry with a towel. Apply conditioner in the same manner as you applied your shampoo and allow your wig to air dry on a stand.

Brushing

While there are special brushes available to use on your wig, picks are a gentler alternative that will help to keep your wig tangle-free. Look for a wide toothed pick for styling and carry it in your purse for touchups when you are out and about!
